Oaths of Dust Buried in Twilight
I pledged once upon a time
To uphold principles quite sublime
Yet at the crux of the long eclipse
The words now refuse to leave my lips
Vestiges of the past are crumbling
Armies of discontent ever rumbling
The time for idle chatter is ending
Nobody cares what they are defending
Blood lust shall soon fill their hearts
The result of decades of false starts
Honesty the antique championed by fools
Violence allows anybody to remake rules
What choice have we but to take a stand
As their bigotry and greed rape the land
We turned a blind eye to simmering rage
Soon we will pay dearly to turn the page
I pledged once upon a time
To uphold principles quite sublime
Yet the institution defended is failing
And ghosts of founding fathers are wailing
We swore to never suffer any king
Yet we have one of whom psychos sing
He is a petty bitter incompetent man
Compared to which all are better than
He will strip us all of our humanity
If he can manufacture enough calamity
Our children and their progeny beyond
Shall scorn the horrors we all spawned
Despite endlessly muttering the words
Their lessons were ignored by the herds
So uncertainty bristles through the land
Over ideals only a few of us understand
I pledged once upon a time
To uphold principles quite sublime
The path now altered by verse tonight
Ode to oaths of dust buried in twilight
